Jessie Reyez Familia
Reyez was born in Toronto, Canada, on June 12, 1991 to Colombian parents. She began to play the guitar as a child after being introduced to it by her father and started to write her own music in highschool.
In 2012, she moved to Florida with her family after being granted American visas. While living there she primarily worked as a bartender.
Jessie returned to Toronto in 2014 when she became involved with the Remix Project, an educational program for low-income students that helps young adults learn about music and the arts. At the Remix Project, Reyez was mentored by Daniel Daley, from Dvsn, and her music was heard by King Louie. He liked her work and asked her to collaborate with him on a song. The single they created together “Living in the Sky” was released in 2014, followed by a second single, “It Hurts (Selena)”, in 2015.
In early 2017, she released the single “Shutter Island” and toured Europe opening for PartyNextDoor. Her follow-up single, “Figures“, was premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio, alongside its music video. “Figures” peaked at number 58 on the Canadian Hot 100 in 2017 and was certified triple platinum by Music Canada. In 2018, Jessie Reyez won The Breakthrough Artist award at the Junos, this was the beginning of many awards and nominations to come.
Jessie Reyez’ long-awaited second album “Yessie” dropped in September 2022.
