Masthead — Who Runs Wehpa

Wehpa is a Latino and BIPOC culture network covering the food, music, history and stories behind the trends. It publishes an online magazine at wehpa.com and a free streaming channel, Wehpa TV, on Roku.

This page exists so you know who is behind what you are reading, and how to reach us if we get something wrong.

Who runs Wehpa

Victor Ramirez — Co-Founder

Mia Alejandra Umphrey — Editor

Mia Alejandra Umphrey is the Editor of Wehpa. She edits and fact-checks articles before publication, and is the named reviewer in the structured data attached to every piece on this site. Where an article makes a contested or high-risk claim, it is her sign-off that it carries.

How we work

Two things we state openly rather than bury:

  • AI assists the drafting. Victor researches and directs every article, and every factual claim is verified against a named source before publication. Nothing is published on the strength of an AI system’s say-so. The disclosure appears at the foot of each article, not only here.
  • Contested history gets attributed, not asserted. Much of what we cover — where a dish came from, who invented a genre — is genuinely disputed. Where the record is thin, we say who claims what instead of picking a winner and stating it as fact.

The full sourcing rules, including which kinds of source we will and will not cite, are on our editorial standards page.

Corrections

We do not silently edit. When we get something wrong, we fix the article and add a dated note to it saying what was changed and why. The error stays visible in the record.

If you spot something wrong — a fact, a date, a name, an attribution — email info@wehpa.com and say which article and which claim. You do not need to prove it; pointing at it is enough for us to check.

Ownership and funding

Wehpa is independently owned and operated by its founders. It is not owned by a media group, and no article on this site is paid placement. If that ever changes — sponsored content, an advertising partner, an investor — it will be disclosed on this page and labelled on the articles themselves.

One relationship worth naming. Victor Ramirez, our co-founder, is also co-founder of Raised by Latinos, a Latino streetwear brand. The two are separately owned but share a founder, so RBL is a sister brand, not an advertiser. Where an article mentions it, that relationship is stated at the point of mention rather than left for you to discover here. No money changes hands for editorial coverage, and RBL gets no say in what we publish.
