Esto no es el ghetto esto es el monte

Cigarillion (Sai x Brillo) – Octavo Trago (Video Oficial)

The message is that hip hop often celebrates toughness of people by the weapons they have, the crimes they’ve committed,

the cars they drive, and usually it depicts an urban reality where being “from the streets” makes you tough.  However, when you live in the forest, in the mountains, in the jungle, in rural areas, you realize that people have many more guns, all kinds of guns.  In the rural areas each home has handguns, rifles, hunting bows, and there are multiple predators that you have to protect yourself from.  Also, in the ghetto a person who has a gun usually has to hide it while in mountains and rural areas people carry their guns in the open, in their cars, and do not need to act like having a gun makes them tough.  There is a line in the song that says “nadie estucha su aparato bro, componte, esto no es el ghetto, esto es el monte” which means “nobody holsters their weapon bro, behave, this is not the ghetto, this is the mountains”

After living for over 4 decades in big cities such as Quito, Brooklyn, and Rochester, Sai moved to a cabin in the mountains and realized that everyone around had multiple weapons, were very tough because of having to deal with bears, coyotes, and wolves, and yet they did not have a voice in hip hop as being tough because they were not “from the streets”.  Many videos in “tough” hip hop show people driving motorcycles and atv’s like gangs, and yet there are more motorcycles and atv’s in the mountains and kids drive them since they are 4 years old.  Sai wanted to bring a voice to this population of tough people who grow up in tough weather, work hard, have all kinds of weapons, all kinds of cars and motorcycles, and also love hip hop.
